Early in 1990, Michael Londra decided to follow his heart and
take to the stage. In Ireland word of Michael's talent as a
singer spread quickly and within months he was offered the title
role in "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat". He easily moved into roles like Pish Tush in "Hot Mikado",
Charlie in "Brigadoon" and Joe in "Some Like
It Hot" which received rave reviews in Dublin and got Michael
his first acting award at the Waterford International Festival
of Light Opera. He also performed the title role in the concert
version of "Martin Guerre" at the National Concert
Hall. In 1997, he was selected by acclaimed theater director/choreographer Larry Fuller to play Bobby Kennedy in the world premier of "JFK" where he was noticed by the producers of Riverdance.
He was offered the role of lead singer in the US National Tour
which included performances at Radio City Music Hall and the
MGM Grand in Las Vegas. In March 2000, Michael again was offered
the position of lead singer in the new production of Riverdance
on Broadway, taking the role from acclaimed Irish singer Brian
Kennedy. This show featured duets with Tony nominees Tsidii
La Loka of "The Lion King" and Michel Bell of "Showboat"
as well as new musical compositions by Bill Whelan.
Michael was asked to perform in "Broadway on Broadway",
a concert held in Times Square in front of 50,000 and a TV audience
of millions, performing with Broadway legend, Betty Buckley. He
was also asked to sing with Heather Headley of "Aida"
fame in "First You Dream: A Tribute To Christopher Reeve"
in the New Amsterdam Theater on Broadway.
Since leaving Riverdance, Michael has turned his attention to
recording and pursuing other projects. He is the creator and
director of Radiocelt.com which is part of the Accuradio network (one
of the top ten internet radio stations in the world).
Michael's album "Celt" was produced by acclaimed producer Steve
Skinner who co-produced the Grammy nominated soundtrack of RENT. He
has worked as an arranger/co-producer for Bette Midler and
Celine Dion and has collaborated many times with Arif Mardin, producer of Norah Jones' acclaimed CD.
Michael has been chosen for the role of Jesus in "The Passion of the Christ Symphony" which will tour the world during the next two years. This production is based on the score of Oscar nominee John Debney and had its spectacular US premiere on September 11, 2005. Also planned is a high profile stop at the Vatican.
In addition, Michael has been very active in yet another role, this time as an ambassador for "Concern Worldwide". Through a single release in September, which raised considerable funds for the charity, and through his high profile visit to Haiti in 2005, Michael has helped bring the issue of poverty and hunger to the attention of the public.
